In this video Dr. Stephanie Mancuso explains the benefits of chiropractic care during
pregnancy. Chiropractic care provides health maintenance to the spinal column, sacrum,
pelvis, discs, and related nerves and works with the body's ability to adapt and function
the way it is designed to.
The nervous system is the master communicator to all body systems, including the
reproductive system. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body work more
effectively and efficiently.
During pregnancy there are several physiological and endocrinological changes that
occur to allow for the creation and delivery of the developing baby. These changes,
however, sometimes result in a misaligned spine, pelvis and/or sacrum. * A growing,
protruding abdomen puts excess weight on the low back and increases the low back
(lumbar) curve * Hormones relaxing the ligaments to create pelvic changes not only
effect the pelvis but the entire spine making it more susceptible to misalignment and
nerve stress * Postural adaptations that occur to accommodate for the above can result
in back, neck or joint pain
When the pelvis or sacrum is misaligned it may reduce the amount of room available
for the developing baby. This restriction is called "intrauterine constraint". A misaligned
pelvis or sacrum can make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position
for delivery. As a result, delivery can be more difficult, more stressful and more painful
and longer in duration.
Chiropractic care is vital to a healthy pregnancy! Its potential benefits are many. It can
reduce intrauterine constraint, thus creating the optimal position for birth, help control
symptoms of nausea, reduce labor and delivery time, relieve back, neck or joint pain
and prevent a potential cesarean section.
